Ceremony handing over parts to the Shipyards for the new Celebrity Cruises ship

Sparks flew as workers at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard welded a ceremonial coin to a massive steel mooring block forming the ship’s keel, officially marking the start of construction of the new ship’s fourth vessel. Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Ascent, which is set to enter service in 2023.

The coins, in this centuries-old maritime ceremony, were placed by Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, the parent company of Celebrity Cruises; and Laurent Castaing, Managing Director of Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Celebrity Ascent will debut in Port Everglades from Fort Lauderdale on December 3, 2023 for its inaugural Caribbean season with alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.
