Crowley Takes Delivery of Fourth Tier 4 Ship Assist and Harbor Escort Tug

Crowley Maritime Corp. announced today that it has taken delivery of Athenaits fourth and most powerful tier 4 harbor escort and assistance tug.

The 77′ Athena offers the agility of its compact size without sacrificing power, delivering the most traction for a tug under 80 feet on the market, Crowley said. The ship runs on a pair of 3,400 horsepower Caterpillar Marine 3516 Tier 4 compliant engines. This translates to reduced greenhouse gas emissions while achieving nearly 6,800 hp and 96 tons of bollard pull.

Serving the Pacific Northwest from Puget Sound, Washington, Athenabuilt by DiversifiedEd Marine Inc., Portland, Oregon, and chartered by Brusco Tug and BargeLongview, Washington, meets EPA Tier 4 pollution control technology criteria. The vessel is equipped with remote monitoring for increased vessel efficiency and data exchange.
