The Disney Wish is the latest entry in the company’s cruise ship fleet and it is a highly anticipated new vacation destination. The Wish is expected to make its maiden voyage with guests in about three weeks, but some would-be travelers have just been hit with bad news. While Disney has canceled a pair of trial cruises for cast members, ahead of the Christen cruise, which is set to take place next week.
The Disney Wish’s first official voyage is in mid-July, but it wasn’t supposed to be the ship’s first actual voyage. The christening cruise is set to depart Port Canaveral on June 29, but even before that a pair of test cruises were scheduled. Employees of The Walt Disney Company were invited to take part in two test cruises this week designed to give the ship and its staff a boost and make sure everything was ready for guests. According to Orlando Sentinelthese test cruises will no longer take place as Wish prepares for next week’s event.
There’s plenty to be excited about on board the Disney Wish. The ship offers the first “at sea attraction” in the Aquamouse. There is an MCU theme Marvel Dining Experience that will include Paul Rudd and Brie Larsonas well as, apparently, the ability to use a Quantum Core to change the size of your food. There’s also a Star Wars lounge that honestly looks better than visit Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
It must be a big disappointment if you were a cast member willing to go on one of these test cruises. Being one of the first to sail on the Disney Wish would be a lot of fun, and it’s a nice perk to offer Cast Members, to give them a chance to visit the ship before anyone else. It’s unclear if there will be another opportunity for the cast members who lost out, or if Disney will offer another perk to compensate.
It is unclear what the specific reason for the cancellation is, whether it is a problem with the ship or the staff or something else. Clearly Disney cruise line currently believes that whatever the issue, it will be resolved by next week, as the christening cruise has not been canceled or postponed. And it’s assumed that Cast Members going on a test cruise are prepared for the possibility that not everything will work out perfectly. It seems like Something that Disney wanted to prepare for the baptism cruise was not going to be able to be completed during the test cruises.
CinemaBlend is due to attend the christening cruise, so we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on that. If this problem is bigger than it seems, this event will probably be canceled or postponed very soon. The good news is that guests waiting to leave on the Disney Wish July 14 maiden voyagewhich had already been postponed once, are likely safe as there is almost a month left until then, giving Disney plenty of time to prepare the Wish.
