Ekiti government: Yiaga Africa will deploy 500 observers

Ahead of the June 18, 2022 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, Yiaga Africa is set to deploy 500 poll watchers as part of its “Watching The Vote” project in the state.

Yiaga Program Manager, Elections, Mr. Paul James gave the figure during a workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and leaders in Ekiti State, saying they would be selected from the 250 polling stations sampled in each LGA in the state.

Mr. James instructed CSOs to be more proactive than reactive as there was still a window before the gubernatorial election, and called on CSOs to engage citizens and other stakeholders to ensure that the he election goes off without a hitch.

He said: “When people sell their votes, they don’t have the moral right to question anyone who has emerged from that process. Instead of collecting these peanuts, they should instead ask politicians to use the money for development purposes.

Meanwhile, a former Governor of Ekiti State and Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the state, Engr Segun Oni, said only the SDP has answers to the challenges plaguing the state.

Oni urged the people of the state to vote en masse for the SDP on June 18, 2022, to dethrone the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in the state.

The Media and Publicity Director of the Segun Oni Campaign Organization, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, in a statement released yesterday, quoted the former governor as saying, “We observe that our people seem helpless in the hands of wicked looters. who successively took the reins of governance. .”
