INEC declares Oyebanji winner of Ekiti government poll

Former Ekiti State Cabinet Secretary and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the state governorship, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has been declared the winner of the exercise by the Commission Independent National Electoral (INEC).

The returning officer for the Ekiti gubernatorial election, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, announced the result on Sunday morning at the INEC office in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

“That Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, having met the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and re-elected,” Adebowale, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, said on Sunday.

Oyebanji, who was also a state commissioner, was declared the winner of the poll after securing the most votes.

He won 15 of the 16 local government areas available in the state.

Ikogosi Ekiti born Oyebanji won the contest with 187,057 votes to beat leader Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who came second with 82,211 votes and Otunba Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who won collected 67,457 to take the third position.

ADC candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede got 5,597 votes and his ADP counterpart, Kemi Elebute-Halle, got a total of 3,495 votes to take the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The APP candidate got 1,980 votes, PRP 856, YPP 618, NNPP 529, APGA 376, NRM 347, APM 290, ZLP 282, LP 195, Accord 166 and AAC O49.

The APC candidate also won in all local government areas of the state except Efon Alaaye, where PDP flag bearer Kolawole is from.
