Iran to launch its first cruise ship in the port of Bushehr in the Persian Gulf

Iran will launch its first cruise ship in the Persian Gulf port of Bushehr in the very near future.

A first liner sailing under the Iranian flag should be launched very soon with routes that cover the main ports of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.

Iran’s Ministry of Tourism (MCTH) will launch the cruise ship in the southwest port of Bushehr as the port prepares to process passengers traveling between Iran and Qatar for the 2022 World Cup tournament, it said. said a ministry official on Sunday.

Mostafa Fatemi, who heads the domestic tourism department at MCTH, said the cruise ship was purchased by a private Iranian owner from a French company.

The nine-story cruise liner will accommodate 1,700 people and 700 cars, Fatemi said, adding that the ship will have a capacity of 520 passengers.

The official said the ship will begin its services with domestic voyages between ports in southern Iran, including the port of Chabahar on the Arabian Sea.

He said, however, that the ship’s private owner hopes to use the liner to transfer passengers between Bushehr and ports in Qatar during the World Cup tournament in November and December.

“Undoubtedly, tourist arrivals from Qatar will increase through the use of this vessel,” Fatemi said in a report by IRNA news agency.

Local Bushehr officials said earlier this month they would launch major infrastructure projects at the port to prepare it to welcome World Cup visitors from Qatar, including a new quay that will allow to deal with cruise liners.

Iran hopes to use the opportunity of the World Cup to increase activity in its international tourism sector more than two years after coronavirus-forced shutdowns and restrictions spread across the sector.
