Katy Perry named Norwegian Cruise Line ship sponsor

Hit the high seas! Katy Perry has just become godmother – of a cruise ship.

The “Roar” singer, 37, will perform at a christening ceremony for Norwegian cruise lineeast norwegian primawhich will depart from Reykjavík, Iceland in August.

“My favorite way to vacation with my family is on the water,” the Grammy nominee said in a statement on Thursday, March 17. “Every morning you wake up to an incredible new sight. I love being able to christen it with my good vibes, and I’m so excited to have this beautiful, high-end, high-tech new ship set to sea and offering unique vacation for so many families.”

A ship’s “sponsor” is a long-standing naval tradition of having a civilian sponsor of a ship to bless it with good luck and to name it officially. Some of Norwegian’s other godmothers include Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson, Kim Cattrall and Rosie O’Donnell. (Men can also sponsor ships, but it’s a little rarer — pit bullfor example, is the sponsor of Norwegian Escape.)

“Let’s say GG,” Perry told reporters in Las Vegas on Wednesday, March 16, before a performance at his Play residence. “I’m the ship’s GG. I’m just excited too because it’s going to be in Iceland, and it’s a trip you can’t miss.

The new ship will be the first major cruise ship to be christened in the Icelandic capital and will offer voyages to Northern Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Guests will have access to multiple infinity pools, the “brand’s first high-end international outdoor market,” and an outdoor sculpture garden with “Instagrammable” artwork from artists. The “Wide Awake” singer said “nothing compares” to cruising because of how you wake up in a “new place” every day. “You don’t even have to go down,” she added. “I think that’s the best way to see the world.”

The American Music Award winner completes the second leg of her Play residency at Theater at Resorts World Las Vegas, which premiered in December 2021. The third leg begins in May with a fourth set of shows to follow beginning in July . Inspirations for the lavish stage production include Pee-Wee Playhouse, Liza Minnell and the Folies Bergere.

“There are times on the show where I do ‘WWLD’ – ‘What would Liza Do?’ But I’m such a big kid. I never grew up, and Walt Disney is my hero, and Mister Rogers and Pee Wee Herman are my favorite characters,” she said. Variety in February. “I think I love fantasy lands.
