MSC Cruises, the third largest cruise brand in the world, hosted the christening ceremony for MSC Virtuosa when Hollywood superstar Sophia Loren officially named the ship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Equipped with some of the latest marine technology available, MSC Virtuosa is one of the greenest cruise ships in the world. No effort has been spared to minimize its footprint. The MSC Virtuosa can carry up to 6,334 passengers and 1,704 crew members and is expected to serve the Arabian Sea until March 2022 from its base in Dubai.

The event was held in Port Rashid, in partnership with the Dubai Ministry of Economy and Tourism and DP World. A long-standing maritime tradition, the official christening ceremony of the ship took place in the presence of the ship’s captain, Captain Francesco Veniero and local dignitaries.

Hosted by famed UAE TV personality Omar Butti as master of ceremonies, Hollywood icon Sophia Loren took the stage to officially name her 17th ship MSC Cruises by cutting the bottle-breaking ribbon on the ship’s hull.

The innovative ship measures 19 decks and is expected to welcome guests this winter for week-long cruises from Dubai with the best of fine international cuisine, world-class entertainment, relaxing bars and lounges with the largest area seaside shopping, spa and fitness center, aqua park and clubs for toddlers to teens.
