Xbox Console-Exclusive Indie Gaming Tunic Comes to PlayStation

An Xbox console exclusive, which also happened to be a day one Xbox Game Pass release, will be releasing on PlayStation consoles later this year.

PlayStation’s recent State of Play featured several exciting announcements. The show opened with a trailer for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 Remakeand fans also got a glimpse of some PS VR2 titles, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village.

Other notable reveals included new gameplay trailers for Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6. Both games are set to launch in 2023, with Final Fantasy 16 aiming for a summer outing. Additionally, the show confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered would arrive on PC on August 12, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launching on PC in fall 2022. Sony acquired Nixxes Software in July last year and confirmed its involvement with these ports in the new trailer. The State of Play event also included a surprise announcement of an Xbox console exclusive coming to PlayStation.

Publisher Finji confirms that Tunic will launch on PS5 and PS4 on September 27, 2022. Accompanying this announcement is a new gameplay trailer shown at the State of Play showcase. Tunic is created by Andrew Shouldice and a team of developers who have helped create other popular indie games like Chicory: a colorful story, Cuphead, Celestial, night in the woodsand dust force.

Tunic received rave reviews upon its release in March, with praise for its art style and sense of exploration. Many players have also made comparisons with The Legend of Zelda series. It launched as a day-one Xbox Game Pass title for console and PC and was widely showcased at various Microsoft events.

Tunic is now releasing on PlayStation consoles just over six months after its initial release. Although, unlike its release on Xbox Game Pass, it doesn’t look like Sony will be adding Tunic to the catalog of games offered under PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. It costs $29.99 on other platforms, so PlayStation customers will likely pay a similar price to purchase the game.

The recent inventory has been more eventful and remarkable than previous events. It included plenty of exciting AAA and indie announcements, plus a look at some PS VR2 titles. Sony clarified that first-party games won’t be part of this showcase beforehand, and are reserved for another event known as the PlayStation Showcase anyway, which usually takes place in September. So fans will likely have to wait until September 2022 to see new footage of Sony’s upcoming first-party games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the multiplayer title set in The last of us universe.

Tunic is available now on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S and is due out on PS4 and PS5 on September 27.
